有被遺忘的歷史,就有可以被當權者利用的矛盾。
馬來西亞,與香港一樣,曾是大不列顛帝國的殖民地,也同樣,是許多不同族群、不同宗教人士的聚居地。
獨立後一直統治大馬的執政政權(u.m.n.o.),一直宣傳馬來西亞獨立是靠精英們與英國人談判,而不是靠草根人民的激烈抗爭,這是與史實完全不符的,但被國家審查的歷史教科書,卻把不同族群及宗教人士共同為解殖進行的抗爭歷史完全抹去。

,巫統政權受到挑戰,在危機之下,又再運用這些族群和宗教的差異大做文章,利用和放大了這些差異,拉一派打一派,挑起人民鬥人民。
法米.惹札,一位輕的馬來西亞藝術工作者,面對這些社會衝突,如何嘗試以影像回溯馬來西亞獨立的歷史,期待找到弱勢人民不分族群宗教共同抵抗當權者的可能性?同時,他又如何帶著這些認識,到了草根社區,進行了各種社區文化藝術計劃,面對如此族群撕裂的社會,他如何嘗試推廣自尊、自強、連結的草民意識?
馬來西亞的人民抗爭史和法米的嘗試,又能帶給今天的香港社會,什麼啟示?

synopsis:
where there is the forgotten history, there are “conflicts" among people that can be used by the powerful.
malaysia, like hong kong, was once a colony of the great britain. malaysia has always been a place with mixed ethnic and religion groups, like hong kong.
after independent, the ruling party,United Malays National Organization (UMNO) , has always stated in its history textbooks that, the independence of malaysia was not gained by struggles, but the peaceful negotiation between the elite class and the british. this statement deliberately eliminates the grassroot history of trans-ethnic and trans-religious co-operation in fighting agains colonialism.
in the recent years, the ruling party is no longer as strong as it has used to be. It started to make use and exaggerate ethnic and religious differences into conflicts.so that it could gain support from the largest portion of the population — the malays.
fahmi reza, a young artist, faced these “conflicts" with history, tracing a era when all grassroots are united against the ruling powers. he also brings with him these knowledge, going to the grassroot communities with his art projects, hoping to bring up the self and mutual respect, and hence unity,  among the grassroot people.
fahmi will share with us his film and his experience in this special session of this year’s social movement film festival and we hope his stories could shed some light on hong kong’s present situation.
